Support & Community Liaison

Location: St. Louis

Primary responsibilities
  • communicate with customers via email, chatrooms and forums
  • troubleshoot system problems and customer issues
  • administer and configure Linux servers
  • write tutorials for the wiki/forums detailing common server and software configurations
  • design proactive solutions for common/recurring problems
  • research and develop new products and features
  • contribute to the stability of the Slicehost community

You will have your finger on the pulse of our customer base and will be able to give us proper feedback regarding products. When we do right by the customer you’ll let us know, likewise when we’ve fallen short. Ultimately, Slicehost is a service company and providing quality customer interactions is of utmost importance. Support staff are often unsung heroes, but at Slicehost we will sing your praises loudly, because we understand the value of support.

Hardware Guru/NOC Engineer

Location: St. Louis

Primary Responsibilities
  • assemble and install rackmount servers and networking equipment
  • manage hardware inventory
  • wire servers and network equipment in an organized manner
  • burn-in and troubleshoot hardware
  • replace failed equipment
  • research hardware solutions
  • actively manage vendor relations

This is a very hands-on position, and you will have an opportunity to dig deep into the guts of Slicehost. You will be responsible for coordinating orders and shipments as well as physically installing and configuring equipment. This is no grunt job, however. When you get up to speed on NOC operations you will become an important decision maker for network and operations planning, including the efficient utilization of our network capacity, datacenter space and server resources.

Developer and Systems Engineer

Location: St. Louis

Primary responsibilities
  • contribute enhancements to Slicehost’s infrastructure and backend
  • research and develop new technologies, products and features
  • advanced Linux administration and troubleshooting
  • system monitoring and metrics
Technical concepts
  • general programming and iterative development practices
  • web development frameworks such as RoR various Linux distributions
  • SQL and database programming
  • advanced network design and development
  • server virtualization theory (Xen)
  • application performance and systems scaling

Variety is the spice of life and the norm for our engineers. We’re looking to expand our development team and require sharp coders who are well versed in Linux administration. You’ll be evolving the Slicehost backend (RoR), researching advanced concepts in virtualization and networking, putting out daily fires and contributing to the design of future offerings. On our small team, your work will directly influence the direction of Slicehost and our products.
