New articles site up

Pickled Onion’s been hard at work on a new site that went live today. We’ll be using it as a repository of tutorials and technical articles that are full of details, examples and configurations. It’s a supplemental site to the wiki and will focus on common things you might want to do with your Slices.

There are several articles up now on everything from Subversion to Ubuntu upgrades. Let us know what you think, we’re anxiously waiting for you to submit future article ideas.

  1. Very nice!

  2. Can you tell us what decided you to use a blog instead of using the existing wiki?

  3. wackado…. even more resources!!!

  4. Jean-Luc,

We wanted to add a supplement to the wiki and not seem to be ‘overpowering’ the existing articles or future community contributions which is not the intention at all.

The wiki is a very important part of the resources here at Slicehost.

It was looked at using the wiki but generally thought a separate area would be better overall.

Plus I don’t like using the wiki syntax :)

  5. The new site is great, but I tend to agree with Jluc that keeping this all in one spot might be easier for customers.

We already have the PickledOnion Wiki section and usefuljaja. I assume all new stuff will go in the articles site… so will you still maintain the wiki / jaja content?

I guess to start out there may be a bit of confusion as to where to go: wiki? articles? usefuljaja?

    I’m sure you’ll get there ;-)

  6. I can see the confusion at the moment. Usefuljaja is my personal site and it’s very unlikely I will add anything new to that. Although used a fair bit it is not particularly associated with Slicehost – the wiki page was my own community contribution.

As more articles become available on the articles site I will trim down ‘my’ page on the wiki.

Obviously anyone is still free to add articles, etc on the wiki and I do believe that having an articles site and a wiki will be of benefit in the long run – taking advantage of everyone’s experience and knowledge.

Hang in there – it’ll be clearer as time goes on…

  7. Cool stuff, but you really ought to be move the intro to each category above the ‘latest article’ snippet; it makes the category pages look very messy the way it is currently, hard to navigate.
