Resizing Slices

We’ve just enabled a new feature that will allow you to resize your Slices.

How it works:
  • via the SliceManager, choose a new Slice size
  • resize will begin as soon as resource availability permits
  • data is copied from the old slice, preserving your IP
  • the synchronization process was designed to minimize downtime
  • a notification email is sent on completion and status may be viewed in SliceManager
Note:
  • upgrades are prorated based on the difference in Slice price and remaining time in the current bill period
  • the speed of the process and amount of downtime will vary depending on your system activity and the composition of your filesystem
  • the original copy of the Slice is kept for up to a 12 hour verification period

  4. Brilliant.

I was just looking over the forums for a way to upgrade my slice.

  5. good show slice crew!

Can’t wait for slice cloning & internal IPs …. virtual data centre here we come :)

  6. Very cool. How is the impacted the wait list situation? Should we more or less expect to be able to upgrade our existing slices on-demand?

  7. Yes, you should be able to do this on-demand. We set aside extra capacity for existing customers to upgrade and add-on new slices.

  8. Awesome. One tech question. Say, I’d like to upgrade my slice and it turns out that the physical server it’s on ran out of RAM. How do you cope with such a situation (from the technical point of view)?

  9. Alex – it’s all determined before the upgrade begins.

  10. i’ve been on the wait list for about three weeks for a 256slice, and every week the wait list just gets longer. am i ever going to get a slice?

  11. I used this feature last week to upgrade from 256 to 1024 slice and it worked without a hitch! Very smooth, keeps you informed each step of the way. Awesome job guys.
